Flags at half-staff for former President

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of President George H.W. Bush, a great American whose record of service and love of country are surpassed only by his devotion to family".

Congressional leadership - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi - announced Saturday that the late President will lie in state at the United States Capitol Rotunda from Monday evening to Wednesday morning, giving the public an opportunity to pay respects.

In honor of the 41st president, President Trump has declared Wednesday a national day of mourning, the White House said, and issued an executive order to close federal offices.

On Thursday afternoon, a motorcade will take Bush's body to Union Pacific Railroad Westfield Auto Facility.

Bush will be laid to rest on December 6 on the grounds of the George HW Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University. Both Bush's wife Barbara, the former first lady who died in April, and their daughter Robin, who died of leukemia as a child, are laid to rest on the library's grounds.

In lieu of flowers, the Bush family has requested that donations be made to the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.
