On September 21st 2018 Telltale Games was hit with major layoffs, and nearly its entire staff was laid off with little warning.

"It's been a ton of work logistically and legally to get us to a place where we're able to roll up our sleeves and get to the actual work", Skybound social media rep Johnny O'Dell wrote.

Today, Skybound has offered an update on their official website that announces the resuming of development for the final episodes of the game. The company laid off 90 percent of its staff, many of whom were let go without notice or severance pay.

After taking over the development of the game from Telltale Games, the creators of narrative-driven games based on popular brands like Game of Thrones, the Borderlands series, and The Walking Dead, Skybound announced on Monday that it's returned to work on the series that was jeopardized by Telltale Games' turmoil. But Skybound Games, which now has the rights to the series, has confirmed that work on Episodes 3 and 4 are underway, and numerous original developers are involved.

It finally seems that plans to finish Telltale's final project are full steam ahead.

According to the statement, new release dates for the remaining episodes will be announced soon, and reassurances have been made that anyone who has already purchased a season pass will get access to the final episodes once they are complete.

Telltale's closure saw previous seasons of the Walking Dead removed from digital storefronts, but Skybound's efforts mean they're coming back.

Now that the rights for the game have transferred to Skybound, the team is looking to bring the rest of the game "back online ASAP".
