Sony Celebrates Sale of 86 Million PS4 Units as System Turns Five

The big picture: It may be hard to believe but November 15 marked the five-year anniversary of Sony's PlayStation 4. With Sony skipping gaming bonanza E3 entirely next year, it's likely that we'll see the next PlayStation in 2020.

Congrats, Sony! You certainly deserve all the success!

For starters, the company's flagship console has now sold-in (that's the number of units shipped to retailers, not in the hands of consumers) 86.1 million units. And while no one is really sure how far behind its closest competitor, Microsoft's Xbox One, is, the consensus is that the PS4 leads by a very wide margin.

Another interesting list offered in the post gives devs a peek at which games offered for free through Sony's month-long PlayStation Plus promotions have been downloaded the most. For example, the most popular controller colour is (feel free to feign surprise), the standard black one. You could argue that would be a nice price for the system alone, but to get a $60 game that was just released in September makes it even sweeter, and it seems you'll be able to take advantage of this at numerous retailers.

Some of the statistics for the PlayStation 4 include the top five best-selling titles, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 sitting at the number 1 position, followed by Call of Duty: World War II, Fifa 17, Fifa 18, and Grand Theft Auto V.

What memories do you have of the PlayStation 4 over the last five years? In light of that, tell us some of your best PS4 memories.
