Croatia kept alive their hopes of reaching the Nations League finals after a stoppage-time victor by left back Tin Jedvaj gave them a 3-2 win over Spain in an electrifying Group 4 clash on Thursday.

Spain still top Group 4 with six points after four games but to reach the final round they need England to draw with Croatia in the group finale on Sunday.

Two goals from Tin Jedvaj, including one in the 93rd minute, gave the World Cup finalists the victory in Zagreb.

A tame first half was followed by a frantic second as Croatia were twice pegged back by a rampant Spain side, Dani Ceballos levelling after Andrej Kramaric's opener, before a Sergio Ramos penalty cancelled out Jedvaj's first global goal.

The winners of that game would finish top and reach the 2019 final four while only a draw would see the Spaniards retain top spot.

Spain were left with virtually no time to respond, though, when left-back Jedvaj struck again in stoppage time.

Spain have experienced a slump since thumping Croatia 6-0 in September and beating England in their Nations League opener.

"We knew we were in a group with two of the best teams in the world but I'm not anxious about my team".

Spain could have secured first place in its last Nations League match but fell 3-2 to England, with Raheem Sterling scoring two goals for the Three Lions in the win.

"It was a great second half from both teams".

Chances went begging at both ends and Spain looked more likely to score before Croatia forced the final twist.

Spain came storming back and equalised after Sime Vrsaljko twice handled the ball and Ramos sent goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic the wrong way with a calm spot kick.
