A sole teaser image of the 2020 Kia Soul has been released to kick off the countdown - it's the green vehicle above.

The headlights have been slimmed down with LED daytime running lights; and a trim piece that reads "Soul" is also new, connecting the rear window to the back taillight, enhancing the roofline.

The electric version of the Soul is rumored to offer a range of 310 mile an extraordinary leap from the only 100 miles or so offered by the Soul EV now on the market. The vehicle in the teaser features grey wheel arch extensions, but it's not clear whether all variants will be similarly dressed. Drivetrain choices will include turbocharged petrol units and a "gas-free" electric option. It's believed only the electric version of the Soul will be available in Europe.

After making its LA Auto Show debut, the new Soul will land in showrooms next year.

While the U.S. market gets both petrol engines and the new pure-electric powertrain, when it reaches Europe markets like the United Kingdom will only get the zero-emission plug-in version of the 2019 Kia Soul. Given its sluggish performance, we'd suggest the Grim Reaper is already sharpening his sickle.

That means it will get a front-mounted single electric motor that pushes out about 100kW and a 39kWh lithium-ion battery that will provide for a range of around 320km.
