28, qualified for the repechage by finishing second at the 2018 Rugby Africa Gold Cup.

The Simbas must now beat Hong Kong on November 17 and Germany on November 23 and hope Canada stumble to revive their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup finals due next year in Japan.

The second game on Sunday will see Germany battle Hong Kong.

Kenya Simbas had an very bad start to their 2019 Rugby World Cup Repechage qualifier campaign, socking 10 tries to crash 65-19 at the hands of Canada in Marseille, France on Sunday. "That was a huge effort - a real fight", said Germany captain, lock Matthias Poppmeier.

"We have had an good 12 days on the ground in Europe, including our fixtures against Oxford (University) and Coventry, with a wider group of players, which has allowed us to continue to grow depth and momentum leading into this weekend's game against Kenya", Jones said in a statement.

China-born winger Salom Yiu, 30, was a constant threat on the right wing for Hong Kong and twice broke through the German defense, but his team could not finish the advantage.

Germany also got their tournament off to a positive start with a 26-9 win against Hong Kong in an evenly-matched encounter that the European side only ran away with in the final 15 minutes. But Germany's forwards were gradually asserting control. Sunday's match was the first ever meeting between the Canadians and Kenyans.

Kenya came out firing on all cylinders and were duly rewarded when lock George Nyambua barged over the line with Darwin Mukidza adding the conversion to reduce the gap to eight points.

However, the Canadians quickly built a 20-point lead as No. 8 Tyler Ardron crossed, then Sauder touched down for the second of his two converted tries to make it 39-19 with 25 minutes left.
