WSU hosts Montana in first round of NCAA Tournament at home

The NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament runs a different format, with the first round taking place at the higher seed's location, while the next two rounds will take place in a quadrant format at the home of the highest remaining seed in that quadrant.

Across town, Thomas College (14-4-1) learned it will play at Connecticut College (12-2-2) in the first round.

WSU soccer will host University of Montana on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Baylor would also be hosting the winners of Virginia (15-4) vs. Monmouth (16-3-1) and Texas Tech (13-5-2) vs. Princeton (11-3-2), potentially playing the advancing team for a repeat trip into the Elite 8, paired with the No. 1 seeded Georgetown (17-0-3).

Mid-American Conference champion Bowling Green will begin its NCAA tournament journey against one of the foremost heavyweights in women's college soccer.

Sonoma State will face off with Western Washington for the second straight year, after falling to the Vikings 2-0 in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

State head coach Tom Anagnost said the players put in the work, believed in themselves and they are good people. To have the opportunity to play at home again is something we're looking forward to.

Should the Eagles win against Hofstra, they will play against either Memphis (17-3), who won the American Athletic Conference, or Wisconsin (12-3-4), an at-large bid from the Big Ten. The conference title was a goal the Beavers set in the preseason, coach Molly Wilkie said. "They pushed every day", Wilkie said.

Monmouth entered the MAAC Tournament as the top-seeded team and claimed the tournament title with a win over the third-seeded Siena Saints.

"It's really just a culmination of a season's worth of preparation".

"A lot of us return from last year and we knew how close we were last year", McKee said. The weather we have experienced lately on the road, especially in North Dakota, was quite frigid so the warm weather will be a nice break. That wasn't me just trying to give the guys any false confidence. "All of us walking off that field said we don't want to have this feeling again".
