Speaking ahead of the clash Rodgers said: "We're certainly in a better place than we were a number of weeks ago so the team's really confident and playing well, scoring goals, defensively strong".

Asked if it had been the best Celtic Park win since he took over in 2016, Rodgers said: "I couldn't argue against that if you look at the level of the opponent and our performance against that".

Domestic football will take precedence now as Celtic head to Livingston on Sunday afternoon, with Christie keen to head off on worldwide duty having helped the Parkhead side return to the top of the league for the first time this season. "We'll be ready to go again and everyone will have taken a massive lift from the result and the performance last night".

"People see pressure as negative, I said that the other day".

"We knew before the game that we had to win and we have done that". You need players like that when you are under pressure at times and the ball is being hit up to him. It's nice they can do it not just domestically but against one of the best teams in Europe.

The Hoops are third in Group B after just one win from their opening three matches and know victory is necessary to keep alive any realistic hope of progressing through to the knockout stages.

But Rodgers said: "The most important thing was to win and win well and I think we did that".

"It was a very emotional game, our players fed off that and the supporters helped us to the victory". We did that. There are still a few games to go and we will do our best'.
