The Lakers are tied for 23rd in the National Basketball Association in opponents field goal percentage (47.6) and 24th in rebound differential as opponents grab 3.8 more rebounds than Los Angeles every game. The rest of their center corps - namely Ivica Zubac and rookie Jonathan Williams - haven't been able to match his impact.

Center Tyson Chandler has signed with the Los Angeles Lakers after clearing waivers on a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns, general manager Rob Pelinka announced Monday.

The 36-year-old has made one All-Star game and made the NBA's All-Defensive Team three times.

Chandler signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, two days after reaching a buyout agreement with the Suns. The rules for tampering are not as strict for players as they are for coaches or executives, but most players acted like they hadn't heard the news when asked.

"In Tyson Chandler we addressed that need, and so much more".

"We love the fact that we're going to get another veteran", James said after the Lakers' win in Portland on Saturday. "We are excited that Tyson will bring championship-level experience to our Lakers team that will solidify our veteran leadership and help positively shape our young core".

He spent the past three seasons with Phoenix, and he averaged 6.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game a year ago. He won the NBA Championship with the Mavericks in 2010-11. Shooting over 55 percent from the field in each of his last 13 seasons, Chandler now ranks third all-time in field goal percentage (minimum 2,000 FGM). He was the second pick in the 2001 draft by the Clippers, who immediately traded his rights to Chicago.
