Madrid were far from convincing in their 2-0 win at home to Real Valladolid at the weekend, with both goals coming within the last ten minutes of the game, but every victory will add a little confidence to what was left by the time Lopetegui departed.

"For me, he's the best coach that I have had", Carvajal told TVE.

"His way of looking at football, of handling the squad, of being there for the players... that's something I share, it's the way I see football as well".

A catastrophic run of form in La Liga led to coach Julen Lopetegui losing his job, with Santiago Solari drafted in as interim boss.

The right-back is not available for Real's trip to the Czech Republic to face Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Real Madrid signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea in the summer after the Belgium global had a sensational World Cup in Russian Federation with his national team.

He added in an interview with TVE: "We're not going through a good moment, that's clear, but we also struggled at the start of previous year and ended up winning a third successive Champions League, which is something historic".

However, Los Blancos then took a turn for the worse following a 3-0 defeat to Sevilla, as the club fired three consecutive blanks, including against 10-man CSKA Moscow, while defeat in El Clasico brought an end to his short stint at the Bernabeu.
