The teaser pics and videos that have been released thus far show that the hatchback version's styling will remain faithful to last year's Kai concept, while the latest preview pic confirms that there will also be a sleek sedan derivative.

Mazda has confirmed that it'll be pulling the covers off its all-new Mazda3 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which opens on November 28.

Mazda says that the 3 embodies the firm's KODO design philosophy which "embodies the essence of Japanese aesthetics". It's safe to say the promising Kai concept (pictured below) is an accurate blueprint of what to expect from the road-going vehicle.

The new generation of Skyactiv engines which will be used is called X, or more officially Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) Skyactiv-X.

The new Mazda3 will run on the next generation of the automaker's SkyActiv platform and be powered by the "latest SkyActiv engines" offering what Mazda describes as "responsive control of vehicle speed in any driving situation". He went on to mention the SkyActiv-X engine does not have anything in common with today's 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G, adding the engineers had to reinforce the new unit since the explosions are putting more strain on the internal components.
