In the trailer for The Secret Life of Pets 2, Max gets a taste of the vet's office for the first time and we get a taste of the new Max.

This is a character-centric trailer focused on Max, with the end of the teaser promising "more character trailers" soon, so watch this space.

The biggest thing about the trailer, however, is the inclusion of Patton Oswalt as Max, the role being recast after Louis C.K. admitted to sexual misconduct a year ago.

Throughout the footage, Max is taken by his owner to the vet, where he meets all sorts of odd and eccentric pets, from a creepily obsessive cat, to a dog with some major anxiety issues. It seems as thought the studio will be releasing multiple trailers throughout the next few days. Otherwise, original cast members Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Eric Stonestreet, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Burress, and Bobby Moynihan are all returning.

Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy produce The Secret Life of Pets movie, which is directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2), co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio.

Catch The Secret Life of Pets 2 in theaters next summer, but if you're itching to see Patton Oswalt voice an animated animal in the meantime, there's always Ratatouille.
