'Altered Carbon' Anime Feature Announced by Netflix

At a showcase event in Singapore on Thursday, Netflix announced five new original anime series and films from Asia, including two revolving around Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon.

(SPOT.ph) More and more Filipino titles have been added to Netflix's slate recently.

According to Deadline, five new Netflix anime titles have been announced as part of the streaming giant's global outreach with its original content. Let us know in the comments!

Other new titles include: post-apocalyptic anime series "Cagaster of an Insect Cage" from Japanese studio Gonzo; Philippines-set alien imposter series "Trese", from Shanty Harmayn's Base Entertainment; survival adventure "The Stranded", from Thailand's GMM and H2L Media, executive produced by Ekachai Uekrongtham, Gary Levinsohn, Steven Sims, Billy Hines, and Christian Durso; and spooky Thai tale "Shimmers", by directors Wisit Sasanatieng ("Tears of the Black Tiger") and Sittisiri Mongkolsiri. The episodic series will follow "an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister" who are on the search for their missing parents, venturing out into the risky world in an abandoned Jaeger. The brother is described as an idealistic teenager while his younger sister is the more naive of the two. Craig "Thor: Ragnarok" Kyle and Greg "X-Men: Evolution" Johnson will handle the development of the series.

Production is of the anime is being handled by Legendary Entertainment.

It is set in the same universe of the Netflix live-action sci-fi series, where the second season is in production at Skydance Television. One of the many projects on the slate is a feature-length Altered Carbon film, that will take place in the same universe as the live-action series.

Dai Sato will be writing the Altered Carbon film alongside Tsukasa Kondo. Production of the anime will be dealt with by animation studio: Anima. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious disease "Cagaster" turns people into giant murderous insects, this manga-based series follows the struggle of a young couple to stay alive. The mysterious child is being hunted by dark forces that wish it dead, bringing his sword out of retirement the ronin has no choice but to fight once more. Thomas is also involved in another Netflix Original project Cannon Busters. Grammy nominee Flying Lotus will compose the music and be an executive producer on the show. Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta, Sorry to Bother You) is voicing Yasuke. Yasuke is based upon a historical samurai of African origin that fought with Oda Nobunaga. MAPPA (Yuri! on Ice, Kakegurui) is producing the animation. Created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldissimo. The story is based upon Philippine folklore of mythical creatures that live in hiding amongst humans.
