Bryce Harper and Manny Machado? Phillies fans shouldn't hold their breath

The star outfielder reportedly turned down a 10-year, $300 million offer to remain with the Washington Nationals, according to The Washington Post's Chelsea Janes.

Those are led by Bryce Harper, who, along with Manny Machado, gives this free-agent class a rarity: not one, but two 26-year-old elite sluggers. It turns out that he rejected a contract offer from the team that very day.

According to multiple people familiar with the negotiations, the Nationals discussed terms for a new deal with Harper and his agent, Scott Boras, throughout September.

Now that Harper is officially a free agent, he can negotiate with any team.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo addressed the Harper situation Tuesday and acknowledged that the team has a talented options in the outfield without Harper if he were to sign elsewhere. Last Aril, Middleton joined Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP and said, "We're gonna get that trophy back or I'm gonna die trying."

Harper is a 6-time All-Star with 184 home runs, 521 RBI and a.900 OPS in his career.

"It's going to be a challenge to put the best product on the field, and that could include Harper and it could be doing things without Harper, " Rizzo said. "There is a reality that we would love to sign him, but we may not. I think we have a good strategy in place, a good plan in place, and we have started to begin that process and we will see where it takes us".
