Porsche 911 GT2 RS Reclaims The Nurburgring Lap Record

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS just became the fastest production auto around the Green Hell, Germany's 13-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife track.

That's more than four seconds quicker than the Lambo (which itself had snatched the title from the GT2 RS). However, it's worth noting that while the Porsche that completed this latest 20,6-kilometre lap was indeed road-legal, it seemingly wasn't completely stock. In order to beat it, Porsche has turned to its motorsport partner, Manthey Racing, who tweaked the GT2 RS, altering its set-up to better suit the Nordschleife. This time it's a Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR driven by development engineer and VLN racing driver, Lars Kern.

That's a record the GT2 RS has held once before, having set a 6m47.3s in September 2017. "The balance of the auto is very good with the new package". But I only had one attempt because it was already getting dark.

The achievement was made possible in part thank to what lies at the rear of the auto, There sits a 3.8-litre engine that produces 700 hp and can push the vehicle from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in just 2.8 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 340 kph (211 mph).
