Save $150 on last year’s best Windows Mixed Reality headset

This is reportedly the same sort of approach Sony uses on the PlayStation VR to great effect. Early on, the original HMD Odyssey took its place as one of the higher-end Windows 10 Mixed Reality headsets, and this new model - dubbed simply the HMD Odyssey+ - builds on that. "This headset deploys its cutting-edge display technology to fight irritating fixed-pattern noise for an enhanced MR experience". This is known as the screen door effect and it's quite distracting, taking away from the immersion these headsets aims to generate. Once you lose the feeling of actually being there, the whole illusion is compromised. "Samsung anti-SDE AMOLED Display solves SDE by applying a grid that diffuses light coming from each pixel and replicating the picture to areas around each pixel", Microsoft explains in a blog post. "This makes the spaces between pixels near impossible to see". But Samsung clearly hasn't given up, releasing an update of its HMD Odyssey, the HMD Odyssey Plus, that addresses two major complaints about VR and mixed-reality head-mounted displays: comfort and display artifacts that can cause dizziness and nausea. For those of you outside of the United States, the new Windows Mixed Reality headset will be available "soon" in other regions including Korea, China, Hong Kong and Brazil. Pricing wasn't announced either, but we can probably expect it to be priced similarly to the original HMD Odyssey.

There's also built in headphones tuned by AKG, a built-in microphone that plays nice with Microsoft's voice assistant Cortana and it comes with controllers that support 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) motion control accuracy.

"Samsung strives to develop meaningful innovations that deliver unique experiences to all consumers", said YoungGyoo Choi, Senior Vice President of the PC Business Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
