First Person Dies From The Flu In Connecticut

"The flu shot is incredibly important because it reduces your risk of contracting the flu", Michelle Lin, an emergency room doctor, and professor of emergency medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City told Fox News last week.

Saskatchewan residents can now get their flu shot for free across the province. Flu shots are recommended for those at higher risk, including seniors, people with underlying chronic conditions, children under five and pregnant women.

A free walk in clinic at the University of Regina on October 22 is one of 24 locations where people can get their flu shot in Regina this year.

"Influenza can cause serious illness and may lead to complications, hospitalization and even death", Saskatchewan's chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said in a press release.

Those wishing to get themselves and their loved ones vaccinated in Saskatoon also have the option of attending a clinic this weekend at Prairieland Park.

Health officials in CT have confirmed the first flu death of the season, adding that the virus has sent another 22 patients to the hospital.

The unidentified patient who died was over the age of 65, the state Department of Public Health said.

"This vaccine offers improved protection for seniors, especially the elderly".

For the first time in Saskatchewan, pharmacists will be able to make house calls to administer publicly-funded flu shots.
