Bell not expected back with Steelers this week

Le'Veon Bell was a no-show once again Monday for the Steelers, and there's a growing sense among National Football League analysts he won't report until after the October 30 trade deadline.

When will Le'Veon Bell report?

So a backfield split would be in order if/when Bell returns.

On Sunday ESPN reported that the Steelers have not heard from Bell and have no idea when he'll report, and that should seem obvious by now.

According to NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, Bell did not show up on Monday.

There are some sources around the league who believe that because Bell does not want to be traded, he will wait until after the NFL's October 30 trade deadline to return to work.

The Steelers could still trade Bell without him signing his franchise tender and reporting to their facility, but a deal would be predicated on him doing so before being moved.

Schefter notes that Pittsburgh is not actively trying to trade Bell, but the team has not ruled it out.

Ideally, the Steelers would like to trade Bell, though his prolonged absence and actions and recent comments have not helped his trade value at all. They still do miss Bell, however. The sides would have to negotiate how much of his salary the running back earns during that time, if it comes to that. They're now back in first place at 3-2-1. James Conner has filled in capably as Pittsburgh's lead back, with 453 rushing yards (4.4 yards per carry, three 100-yard games), 26 receptions for 257 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
