From next year, tie-breaks will be played at 12-12 in the final set, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has announced.

He'll first have to get past top-seeded Kyle Edmund of Great Britain, who beat No. 4 seed Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-4 to scuttle the opportunity for an all-French final.

Isner's semi-final with Kevin Anderson in 2018 turned into another saga, with the final set lasting nearly three hours.

All England Club Chairman Philip Brook said: "In reaching this decision, the AELTC Committee sought the feedback of players and officials, analysed two decades of data, and considered factors including scheduling and spectator experience".

Previously only the US Open now had tie-breaks in the fifth set, but Isner hopes Wimbledon's decision could convince the Australian and French Opens to adopt a similar rule.

"There is drama enough in a tie-breaker".

That 2018 semi was the second longest match in Wimbledon history, as Frenchman Nicolas Mahut and Isner set the record with a first round match in 2010 that lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes, with the American taking the fifth set 70-68.

"There were mixed views, it's fair to say. And they recognize it affects the quality of the matches on subsequent rounds". "They recognize the quality of tennis goes down, players start playing not to lose rather than the excitement or the determination to win".

EPIC Wimbledon matches will be a relic of the past after the introduction of a final set tiebreak for the first time.

The decision comes after a 6.5-hour-long semi-final pitting John Isner of the United States against Kevin Anderson of South Africa that saw the latter prevailing in the decider 26-24.

Isner concluded the march of the top three seeds into the semifinals.

At the same tournament, Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal 10-8 in the fifth set to reach the final.

John Isner has backed the change to Wimbledon's rules which will see the final set decided by a tie-break when the game score reached 12-12.
