Paula Abdul is nursing a few bumps and a bruised ego after falling off the stage during a gig in MS on Saturday night.

The chart-topper was performing on Straight Up Paula! tour in MS - her first solo trek in 25 years - when disaster struck.

Straight Up is one of her most enduring hits, but straight down was where Paula Abdul went at a gig in the US.

A "thump" could be heard as audience members shrieked.

"It's a tough business, and it's not for the weak", the former "American Idol" judge explained.

Sitting alongside X Factor mogul Simon Cowell, she helped nurture the careers of Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert.

"She stated she was a dancer, and falls and drops she has gotten used to over the years".

Paula was performing "Promise Of A New Day" and stepping towards the crowd when she suddenly fell off the stage. If she was injured, it didn't come across that way.

The concert was the second stop in Abdul's Straight Up Paula!

"I have that conversation with my younger self it seems like many times a year", Abdul told Fox News backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 21.

Last year, Paula joined Boyz II Men and New Kids on the Block on the Total Package Tour as a co-headliner and seeing how successful the whole thing was convinced her to do her own thing again.

She added to Entertainment Tonight: "It was just a real warm welcome and [it reminded me] of how it felt like when I was on the road constantly years and years ago".
