"I really don't think the show would have been successful without her".

Louis-Dreyfus explained that she felt particularly close to the situation because she graduated from an all-girls school prep school in the Washington, D.C. area, the same one attended by Kavanaugh's accuser Christine Blasey Ford, who alleged he sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers. Late night host Stephen Colbert displayed a sign proclaiming, "167 days since the last Un-Twaining". Prior to taking to the stage to accept her award, the 57-year-old Veep actress received some ribbing (and veiled compliments) from the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, and 2010 Twain recipient Tina Fey.

Louis-Dreyfus says: "The first time I really knew was when I stuffed raisins in my nose and my mother laughed".

"I think it's an important conversation to have about health and health care", she said on the show. I'm grateful for my heroic husband and our lovely young boys, or young men, I should say, who are our boys.

After a 35-year acting career and with two iconic television characters to her name - Elaine Benes of "Seinfeld" and foul-mouthed Vice-President Selina Meyer-Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been honored with the Mark Twain Prize for lifetime achievement in comedy.

And now, Louis-Dreyfus has said she made a decision to be open about her journey because she realised how much different the process would have been if she wasn't privileged enough to be able to afford the hefty costs of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Louis-Dreyfus joined the cast of Saturday Night Live before a nine-year run on Seinfeld. "I ended up in the emergency room because they wouldn't come out!"

"We had just two short pages of script, and we sat down to read the dialogue together", Seinfeld said.

She shared her memory as she walked the red carpet on her way into the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.

Comedian and director Kumail Nanjiani grew up in Pakistan and never saw an episode of TV's "Seinfeld" until he immigrated to the U.S as an adult.

"Oh God, I mean I've had so many, but I would say first and foremost the biggest highlight of my career has being able to work in a number of very significant ensembles", she says.

"It's just a joy to do what you want to do and have success with it", she added.

Deborah F. Rutter, the president of the Kennedy Center, said in a statement, "Like Mark Twain, Julia has enriched American culture with her iconic, unforgettable, and outright hilarious brand of humor". Back in fourth grade, as a matter of fact, I was in a very serious Holton-Arms production of 'Serendipity.' You know it's amusing with us Holton girls - I remember every detail of that play.

Seinfeld also credited Louis-Dreyfus for having the confidence and strength of personality to hold her own on what he called "a very male show".

Later Keegan-Michael Key come onstage, dressed as Mark Twain himself and proceeded to roast numerous previous award recipients.

PBS will air the Twain event on November 19.

Production on the upcoming seventh and final season of "Veep" was delayed as Louis-Dreyfus received treatment for breast cancer.

"Last year, I was lucky enough to get an Emmy award for my performance on Veep, which was an incredible thrill-and it set some kind of a record for most the Emmys by somebody for doing something or other".
