Being the good bloke he is, Hemsworth and his mate Luke Zocchi picked up the hitchhiker and took him with them to Byron, by the way of private helicopter.

The man who plays Thor is famous around the world for being a superhero on screen, but it's fair to say that this tired traveller thinks Hemsworth is a bit of a hero in real life after this incredibly kind gesture.

The video has been viewed over 1.6 million times since being posted on Sunday.

The tourist, an American musician by the name of Scott Hildebrand, had chose to stand by the side of the road and see whether anyone would give him a lift south to Byron Bay.

"We're going to Byron, we'll give him a lift", Hemsworth says in a video of the encounter which he posted to his Instagram page on Monday.

The video, which Hemsworth captioned: "Picked up a hitchhiker, wasn't a serial killer which we were stoked about and just happened to be a kick ass musician Scott Hildebrand" has already racked up almost two million views.

"All right, Scotty, dream is over back to the normal hitchhiking", Hemsworth said after landing.

To paraphrase the famous words of Korg from Thor: Ragnarok: "Hey, man".
