Marvel's IRON FIST Cancelled at Netflix

On Friday, fans of the Iron Fist were thrown for a loop when Marvel and Netflix announced that the adventures of Danny and Colleen- who actually now has the Iron Fist- would be coming to an end with the series cancelled after two seasons.

A petition has been launched by Melissa Hodge on to "Bring back Iron Fist".

That basically confirms the decision to cancel Iron Fist was not an order from Disney, but a call made by Netflix. It came as a surprise to fans, and also to many non-fans, since "Iron Fist" is part of the Marvel/Netflix series of "Defenders" shows and they seemed. well, less destructible than this.

While Netflix did not specify exactly why "Iron Fist" was being shut down, the show has been consistently rated by critics as the weakest among the "Defenders" shows. "I have an enormous amount of love and respect for everyone involved with the last two seasons of this show". There is so much more potential and stories to be told and it's not great fan service to end the last season on a cliffhanger and not go along with it especially when the second season was more well received with critics and fans. While discussing the possibility of a third season for Iron Fist, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb stated that the decision was never in their hands.

The cancellation of Iron Fist was surprising to some. And how do you hope to see utilized in other Marvel Netflix series? Disney Play is meant to be a more family-friendly service through and through, which means that the dark, gritty, and sometimes violent Marvel shows on Netflix would likely not be a good fit within those parameters.

"Marvel's Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix", Netflix said in a statement.

Iron Fist debuted to abysmal reviews, and even stirred up controversy regarding the casting of Jones (a white actor) rather than an Asian or Asian-American actor, so it was shocking to hear at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 that Marvel and Netflix renewed the series for a second season - with a new showrunner on board to help steer things in a more positive direction.

Streaming now on Netflix, Marvel's Iron Fist Season 2 stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Sacha Dhawan as Davos, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, and Alice Eve as Mary Walker.

It's unlikely that Marvel and Netflix will backtrack, un-cancel Iron Fist, and greenlight a third season like Hodges and 11,000-plus others are hoping.
