National guard units had reached the scene of the "act of terrorism"' he told Interfax. They blew up the lobby, all the windows were shattered.

Olga Grebennikova, the college's director, told Crimean media outlets outside the college that someone had blown themselves up inside the college and that the bodies of children were everywhere.

"We are clarifying the information at the moment".

TASS, also state-run, quoted an unnamed law enforcement official as saying that about 70 people were injured and an unknown number of them had died.

A local official said most of the blast victims were students of the technical college, which is a vocational school for teenagers. "Eight ambulance crews are working at the site and air medical services are involved", the Crimean Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Numerous casualties taken to hospital are reportedly in a serious condition.

"There are already lots of people in the emergency room, and in the operating theatre", a hospital employee told Russian news agency TASS.

Emergency officials said earlier that the blast had been caused by a gas canister explosion.

As KerchInfo reports, a gas explosion was the reason for the incident.

He added that the building was evacuated and cordoned off after the "explosion".

An explosion hit a Polytechnic College in Kerch leaving several people dead.

Crimea, officially part of Ukraine, was seized by Russian Federation in 2014 and annexed after a disputed vote that was widely condemned by the global community.

Kerch is the site of the western end of a newly built bridge linking Russian Federation to Crimea, which it took over by force after Moscow-friendly Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was pushed from power by pro-European protests in Kyiv.
