The father was not at home, police officers said.

Collier's adult biological son found the bodies of his mother and step-siblings and called police after returning home from work at 6pm.

Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland says the children, three girls, and one boy, were homeschooled, and there were no previous reports of violence at the home.

The ages of the children were not released but the sheriff called them "young".

Investigators said the mother appeared to kill the children before killing herself.

"I'd ask our community to lift the rest of this family and friends up in prayer", Sheriff Rowland said.

'Well we deal with hard situations, with carnage each and every day, but the magnitude of this is more than what we're used to on a day to day basis, ' said Rowland.

"We're not gonna predetermine anything until this investigation is completed", he said, adding, "we don't see anything that would lead us to believe this was not an isolated incident inside the home".

"We don't believe we have a suspect at large at this time, but we are going to be thorough with this investigation", he said, reported the Columbia Daily-Herald.
