A 23-year-old football player who has thus far failed to launch his NFL career despite two stand-out years at West Virginia University has been charged with child molestation after his wife allegedly caught him in the act and then told the girl's mother.

A former standout college running back has admitting to having sex with a 12-year-old girl, telling investigators that the sexual encounter was her idea, police said.

She told the Ledger-Enquirer that her husband did not actually have an erection, just that his penis was exposed. The girl reported she was asleep when the girl reported she had been asleep in the living room when Crawford came in and had her perform oral sex on him before they had intercourse.

A lawyer for Crawford couldn't be found.

Crawford (pictured in August) signed on as an undrafted free agent with the Falcons in May.

The Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football says Crawford was suspended after his arrest.

Crawford's wife Chakeya Crawford called the Ledger-Enquirer later Monday to object to that account. Police said she then went back to bed, but "did not rest easy". Crawford's wife, Chakeya Crawford, later said that she only saw him exposing himself and he immediately ran from the living room into the kitchen to cover up. He is now being held without bond in the Muscogee County Jail in Columbus - which sits about halfway between Atlanta and Montgomery, Alabama.

The 12-year-old was taken to the hospital, where doctors administered a rape kit to collect any DNA evidence. He also claimed the intercourse was the girl's idea, according to Scruggs' testimony.

While at Hardaway during his junior and senior years, Crawford played quarterback, running back, receiver, safety and punter.
