A tweet by tipster Jane Manchun Wong shows screenshots of the feature in Messenger, suggesting it may become available to users sooner rather than later.

The company is working on a prototype of the Unsend feature, according to TechCrunch.

Facebook may be getting closer to launching an unsend feature for Facebook Messenger.

Ever had that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you've sent a Facebook message you really shouldn't have? A Facebook spokesperson then confirmed to TechCrunch that the feature could be rolled out in the months to come.

Facebook's Unsend feature first came to the limelight after CEO Mark Zuckerberg was able to delete messages from the inbox of various recepients in April this year. A similar feature also exists in WhatsApp, for example, that allows you to either delete a message for just you or for everyone.

Facebook promised to bring users the option to delete/unsend messages for some time now, but the social network company failed to fulfill that promise for the time being.

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, already lets users unsend messages on the platform.
