Developer Cloud Imperium Games just released a new celebrity-packed trailer for "Squadron 42", the standalone single-player game being developed alongside massively multiplayer space title "Star Citizen". We also finally got confirmation that Henry Cavill, who was recently cast as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix adaptation of the books, will join Hamill in Squadron 42 as pilot Ryan Enright.

Squadron 42 is set to be a more linear, cinematic experience than the persistent-world of Star Citizen, inviting players to "join the fearless men and women of the 2nd Fleet as they stand strong against the greatest threats the UEE has ever faced". Star Citizen is having its annual event gathering with fans and backers as well as the makers of the game to showcase the latest details that will be shipping shortly in version 3.3 which is now in testing with the advanced Evocati test group. To do this, the new technology scans a player's face using their webcam, producing in-game character reactions and lip synchronisation.

One new gun, the Kastak Arms - Karna, a powerful assault rifle with charged shot capabilities for extra firepower and two new ship weapons from Hurston Dynamics to give players even more dogfighting options.

The trailer closes with the revelation that CIG will be publishing a "full roadmap to Squadron 42's release in December". Apparently it will be capable of ferrying large teams of players as well as ground vehicles and will be immediately flyable with the release without having the usual concept sale a long time before it gets put into game. Could it be the most star-studded cast in a video game to date?
