No need to worry anymore, as THR confirmed that Coogler will return as writer-director for the Black Panther follow-up.

After the initial report indicated Coogler will direct the Black Panther sequel, a report from Variety indicated the film will not go into production until late 2019 or early 2020, leaving him enough time to take on a smaller project. Furthermore, actor Chadwick Boseman, and everyone else in the ensemble cast is expected to return to help round out the cast of Wakandans.

However, when it comes to potential Oscar glory, Disney have made a decision to back just one of these horses, and have put Black Panther forward for Best Picture consideration.

The timeline for Black Panther 2 remains unclear, as Marvel has yet to officially announce the next slate of films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond the still untitled Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home, though a shuffling of Disney's release calendar has suggested a release date of February 12, 2021 for the sequel. Pitted against his own family, the king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and embrace his future as an Avenger.

"Black Panther" blew away box office records earlier this year, making $1.3 billion worldwide, including $700 million domestically - the biggest domestic box office gross for any Marvel film. It is unknown if "Black Panther 2" will now become his primary focus if he will still tries to squeeze that smaller film in.
