The new and improved Avatars aim to let players celebrate their own diversity within the community. The company is introducing some major new features with the latest major update for the Xbox One system, launching much-awaited features like the next-gen Avatars.

The new Xbox Live Avatars have been created to be more inclusive, and they're much modern than the ones from the Xbox 360 era. They're still in beta as of this writing, but they will ship on the Xbox One 1810 system update later this month. Microsoft has also created a built-in Xbox Avatar Store where you can purchase additional customization items for your avatar.

Announced over two years ago, Microsoft's new avatars are now available to everyone.

Avatars will appear across Xbox One through the user's profile, their gamerpic, as well as the profile pages of anyone who has chosen to represent themselves as an Avatars.

One of the notable new features in the update is support for Amazon's Alexa voice assistant, which can be enabled via a skill.

Commands include power on/off, adjust volume, launch games and apps, start and stop broadcasts on Mixer, capture screenshots, and more. To learn more about this new feature, see our previous post.

Xbox is committed to bringing rich entertainment options to our fans. Today we are excited to launch our latest entertainment option, Dolby Vision HDR video streaming support across Xbox One S and Xbox One X! Dolby Vision support delivers enhanced HDR and dynamic scene-by-scene precision, with highlights that are up to 40 times brighter, and blacks that are 10 times darker. Right now, only Netflix premium users will be able to make use of Dolby Vision HDR streaming on their Xbox One as Microsoft works with other apps to expand its Dolby Vision support in the future. To enable Dolby Vision on the console, navigate to Settings - Display and sound - Video output - Video modes - Allow Dolby Vision.

Xbox is committed to being more accessible and inclusive.

Finally, Microsoft added five more languages to Narrator, including Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Swedish, and Dutch. An Australian version of English language for Narrator is also being added. Insiders on the Preview Alpha ring will next begin testing the next feature update, codenamed 19H1.
