HBO Sets January Premiere Date For True Detective Season Three

Not everybody loved the second season of True Detective, but the show's first season (starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson) was nothing short of a masterpiece.

Exactly how the third series sets about bringing True Detective back to the pinnacle of crime drama television remains to be seen, but many have taken the trailer as reason enough to be excited.

Earlier on Thursday, it was revealed that fans won't have to wait much longer for their fix. Season 3 will move the action to the Ozark region of Arkansas and Oscar victor Ali will play a detective who's haunted by a case from his past as the story unfolds over three timelines. The cast also includes Josh Hopkins, Sarah Gadon, Jon Tenney, Mamie Gummer, Scoot McNairy, Carmen Ejogo, and Deborah Ayorinde.

Returning on HBO for its third season on January 13, True Detective is created by Nic Pizzolatto, who also serves as showrunner and writer. Stephen Dorff (Blade) plays his partner, Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator whose career has been influenced by a baffling crime Arkansas.

Details about Dorff and Ejogo's characters are still now under wraps but the former looks to be Hays' partner while Ejogo's character appears to be someone assisting Hays with the search for the missing children.
