Newlywed Barbara Bush has lifted the veil on her and husband Craig Coyne's surprise decision to tie the knot in ME this past weekend, just six short weeks after getting engaged in secret.

Former first lady Laura Bush said the former Florida governor and failed presidential candidate didn't make the cut for the small-scale, and short notice, October 7 nuptials - in which her eldest daughter with former President George W. Bush married actor Craig Coyne. You can have this great career and this great life.

'Craig didn't get to meet my grandmother, ' she told the publication.

Barbara noted that at 94, grandpa Bush is doing well, but given his recent history of hospitalizations and his advanced years, they did not want to wait long. Her namesake and grandmother, former first lady Barbara Bush, died at age 92 in April. One month later, he was admitted to a hospital in ME due to low blood pressure and fatigue.

The bride is the co-founder of public health nonprofit Global Health Corps.

So, when Coyne fittingly popped the question on August 25, 2018, near the same location that Bush's grandparents got engaged back in 1943, "We just thought, let's try to do [the wedding] soon - a small wedding with just our family and my grandfather, here", she explained.

"We actually would have gotten married the next week if we could have", says Barbara.

"So during the entire ceremony she walked around with the ring box", Laura Bush said. According to People magazine, the newly married pair first met during a blind date in November 2017.

The couple will live in NY.

"And so we had a wedding outside, looking at the ocean".

Barbara paid tribute to her late grandmother by wearing a bracelet that had been given to her by George H.W. on their 70th wedding anniversary as her "something borrowed".

"It was just us three - quiet and attractive".

Bush may not have been a wedding crasher, but he almost ruined his daughter Barbara Bush's engagement.

"It was just our family and Craig's family".

She "was very proud of being a ring bearer".

Congratulations again to Bush and Coyne on their marriage!
