Quake near Bali, Indonesia, kills at least 3

And the country is still reeling from a devastating magnitude-7.5 quake and subsequent tsunami on the island of Sulawesi, which killed almost 2,000 people and displaced thousands. The quake occured at a depth of 9 km, and a tsunami warning has not been issued.

People in the eastern part of Java, Madura and Bali islands also reported they felt the quake.

"Wow, that was really strong and it lasted a long time", said one woman who took refuge in a hotel parking lot in Nusa Dua, a few kilometres from where the International Monetary Fund and World Bank are holding their meetings.

"Many summit participants woke up and asked questions, but we immediately sent out information to them that there had been an quake and the impact in Nusa Dua", he told AFP.

Another resident, Ni Komang Sudiani, told AFP: "The quake was very big". I immediately woke up and took my little kids out of the house.

"All my neighbors were also running", said the mother of two.

"I felt the quake too", she told AFP.

The natural disaster, which began in the Bali Sea, shook buildings for several seconds.

The quake was also felt in Surabaya, the capital of East Java province, which is about 200 kilometers from Situbondo, the nearest town to the quake epicenter.

Residents in some areas of the tourist island were forced to temporarily evacuate their homes.

Bali is now hosting the 2018 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group with over 19,000 delegates and guests in attendance.

The USGS put the epicentre as 40km northeast of Sumberanyar on nearby Java island.

The country is still reeling from an natural disaster and tsunami last month that killed more than 2,000 people.

The magnitude 6.0 natural disaster occurred at a depth of 9 km, and a tsunami warning has not been issued.

Indonesia is situated in the Ring of Fire, an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.

The PNG quake happened 41km from Pomio.
