There's definitely no bad blood between the AMAs and this superstar, who won her first award, Best Country Female, in 2008, and earned the title the next five years in a row. After getting political in an Instagram post over the weekend, Taylor used her acceptance speech for Artist of the Year to encourage people to vote.

She also snapped pics with some of the night's other biggest stars, like Taylor Swift and Gladys Knight.

Meanwhile, Post Malone was named Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist, and K-Pop sensations BTS continued their unbelievable 2018 by landing the Favorite Social Artist honor.

Swift owned the night from the moment the 2018 AMAs ceremony kicked off, opening the show in spectacular fashion with a fiery, witchy performance of the Reputation track "I Did Something Bad" alongside her famous mechanical snake, Karyn.

Billy Eichner put his signature shout to good use at the 2018 American Music Awards to urge young people to vote in next month's midterm elections.

On Sunday, Swift provoked a storm by breaking her silence on politics and announcing she would vote for two Democrats in Tennessee in the US congressional midterm elections in November. "Get out and vote - I love you guys". If you believe in equality for women, for people of colour, for the LGBTQ community.

Lopez began with a poem by writer Jasmin Kuar, which read: "Scream so that one day a hundred years from now another sister will not have to dry her tears wondering where in history she lost her voice".

"As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I can not support Marsha Blackburn". Tell them to vote. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me.

"Thank you God, first and foremost".

Taylor Swift, straight off a controversial dive into USA politics, was the big victor at the American Music Awards on Tuesday where she used her platform to again urge her fans to get out and vote. The show will also pay tribute to Aretha Franklin.

Cardi B and Drake are both nominated for eight awards.
