The second finalist of the tournament China Open in 2018, which is now taking place in Beijing, was Caroline Wozniacki.

Ex-first racket of the world Caroline Wozniacki became the champion of a major tournament in China category Premier Mandatory with a prize Fund of $8,285,274.

The 28-year-old, who won her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open at the start of this year, was imperious against the unseeded Sevastova.

Wozniacki said eight was her lucky number and, having won in Beijing eight years ago, she "felt it was my year". In the set, she steamrolled to take a double-break 4-1 lead and held to it until the score was 4-3. "Maybe I had even chances to win it", Sevastova said.

"I think I just really appreciate still being here, playing well, being able to win these titles".

The victory was Wozniacki's second title in Beijing.

"As a little kid I had a dream of becoming a professional tennis player, becoming number one in the world".

Wozniacki saved three set points before holding at 5-3, stayed very strong and solid in the final game as her opponent was coming back strongly, and went on to emulate Agnieszka Radwanska who triumphed here in 2016 without losing a set. The world number 20 made 35 unforced errors in the match, including 21 in the second set, to allow Wozniacki to close out the victory. "Caroline played unbelievable today, it's always tough playing against her and I have never won. I hope that we will continue to have good matches", Sevastova said.
