World leaders laugh openly at Donald Trump during United Nations summit

"This will mean that EU member-states will set up a legal entity to facilitate legitimate financial transactions with Iran and this will allow European companies to continue to trade with Iran", Mogherini told reporters, flanked by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The German diplomats got a kick out of this portion of the speech, but it's hard to tell if they're reacting to the actual substance of what Trump is saying, or if they are chuckling over the president's failed attempts at pronouncing the word "expansionist".

"America is governed by Americans". Trump, and the majority of the world's leaders, convened for the U.N. General Assembly in NY on Tuesday. They do not respect their neighbors, borders or the sovereign rights of nations.

"The Iranian people are rightly outraged that their leaders have embezzled billions of dollars from Iran's treasury, seized valuable portions of the nation's economy... all to send out their proxies to wage war".

Mr. Trump's administration is pushing allies to cut imports of Iranian oil to zero as Washington prepares to restore sanctions on Iran's oil sales in November.

He also reminded the audience of his decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal earlier this year.

That the cutting insult has achieved inside joke status between the two leaders exemplifies the extent of the diplomatic détente between the U.S. and North Korea in the year since Trump delivered those jarring threats at the United Nations and its lightning-fast pace. He spoke after Brazilian President Michel Temer. "The United States will not be taken advantage of any longer", he said before criticizing "broken and bad trade deals". "We only ask that you honor our sovereignty in return", he said.

"Those days are over".

Donald Trump used his own United Nations speech to attack the Islamic Republic, claiming Iran must be isolated "as long as its aggression continues".

As assembled global dignitaries started to chuckle, Trump interrupted his prepared remarks and insisted, "So true".

Trump often criticised former US President Barack Obama's approach to foreign affairs and claimed the world was "laughing" at the country under Obama's leadership. "We are standing up for America and the American people, and we are also standing up for the world".

"We will never surrender America's sovereignty to an unaccountable, unelected global bureaucracy".

But Trump's bombastic foreign policy has faced significant criticism at home and overseas, and polls have shown a that majority of Americans surveyed feel the United States has lost respect worldwide under his leadership. We reject the ideology of globalism, and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism.
