Tiger Effect in full swing as NBC's ratings soar for Tour Championship

Only 12 months ago Woods himself questioned whether he would play competitive golf again.

Did people tune in even though Tiger won the Tour Championship right in the middle of Week 3 National Football League action? You know this already, surely.

Woods' Tour Championship win was not just popular in the Woods household and among the masses of golf fans; it was wildly popular among his fellow players, with many of his Ryder Cup teammates waiting on the 18th green to congratulate him after his win Sunday. He took home the Tour Championship title, leading the tournament from start to finish.

At one stage, it looked as though Woods would add the $10 million FedEx Cup prize to his Tour Championship victory, but the cash eventually went to Justin Rose.

"I have considered him for the last five, six years a former golfer" Fox Sport's Colin Cowherd says in the clip.

Despite being up against the National Football League, the season-ending event broadcast on NBC that saw Woods win his first PGA Tour event in more than five years drew a 5.21 overnight rating when Woods was on the course. The telecast from the final round was the highest-rated one of any PGA Tour event in 2018.

Eventual runner-up Billy Horschel recorded a stunning final round to put some pressure on Woods in the closing stages, but eventually just came up short. Imagine how good the TV ratings will be for the 2019 Masters if Woods is in serious contention on Sunday.

Bjørn was, however, full of praise for Woods's latest and 80th PGA Tour triumph achieved after four back surgeries.

On Monday Woods and the rest of the US team landed at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport ahead of starting preparations for the 42nd Ryder Cup.
