A young fan ran onto the pitch as Neymar was leaving as a late sub and the youngster crumpled in tears as his hero hugged him and gave him his shirt in touching scenes bound to glorify the former Barcelona striker when they go viral on social media.

From a deeper than usual playmaker role Brazil's Neymar pulled the strings as Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to beat Rennes 3-1 in Ligue 1 on Sunday (Sep 23), helping to dispel midweek memories of a European flop at Liverpool. Neymar took the boy under his arm and walked back to the sidelines, gesturing toward security guards to indicate everything was okay.

Neymar then took off his shirt and gave it to the boy, who was taken away by stewards.

Neymar had a mostly anonymous performance before the incident, with a mediocre display in Brittany.

PSG critics have suggested the French giants had overspent on strikers and forgotten about the midfield after a tame 3-2 defeat in the Champions League at Anfield this week.

The result left PSG top of the French league on a maximum 18 points, five clear of second-placed Lille, after Angel Di Maria and Thomas Meunier cancelled out an early Adrian Rabiot own goal which fired the adventurous home side ahead.

Playing without the suspended Kylian Mbappe, the defending champions faced strong resistance from an inspired home side that defended well and destabilized PSG on the break.

The hosts took a surprising lead after 11 minutes as Clement Grenier's corner deflected off Adrien Rabiot and sailed into the back of the net.

The visitors continued to push for an eqauliser as the half went on, but Rennes almost bagged a second against the run of play but Gianluigi Buffon was on hand to make the save in the 39th minute.

The same combination worked again on 83 minutes, but this time Meunier set up Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to score his first league goal.
