West Ham, boosted by their first win of the season at Everton, began brightly but Chelsea created the first threat when Willian crossed towards Olivier Giroud before the home side cleared.

"We needed two wingers".

Sarri made an impressive start to life as Chelsea manager - despite being appointed on July 14 - winning his first five games of the season, but he does not think his side are yet able to compete with champions Manchester City or early league leaders Liverpool. "You must score", the Hammers boss told reporters.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has managed to stop the rot with four points from the past two matches.

"It will be a really hard match".

Sarri is not convinced Chelsea's Europa League trip to PAOK had anything to do with Sunday's sluggish performance, though he does not see why the Premier League can not do them a favour with match scheduling.

'Pedro for us is very important, because he is the best player we have with movement without the ball, ' Sarri said.

"Maybe we could have done better in the last 25 minutes of the first half".

The visitors were on top for long spells of the game but West Ham might have taken all three points had Andriy Yarmolenko not missed a glorious chance for them with 13 minutes remaining. "So it's OK, one point, for today". 'We have to play against a very, very good team who have worked with the same coach for three years. It was just getting us to gel together, obviously signing nine players at the beginning of the season and a new manager, it was always going to be hard.

Chelsea will now prepare to take on high flighers Liverpool twice next week - firstly in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, before taking them on in the league on Saturday.

"Midweek [against Liverpool in the EFL Cup] it won't matter because I don't think they've got a big, Christian Benteke type striker".

"[Chelsea] had a lot of possession because we allowed them to have the ball".

'We are trying to have him back for the end of the week, but I don't know at the moment'. "Maybe I will change 11 players, maybe 5".
