With Shaw still only 23 and new boy Dalot just 19 years old, there is a sense that the duo could go on to become a formidable long-term full back pairing for United, and speaking on BT Sport, via the Daily Star, former United star Hargreaves told the pair to match the exploits of Liverpool's star full backs.

"Yes, yes, yes. Not only me, I think a lot of managers after that achieved and got the chance to come to the Premier League because they were related to Mourinho", Nuno said with Marco Silva, Andre Villas-Boas and Carlos Carvalhal all having managed in the Premier League and all having had a link to, or friendship with, Mourinho.

"I am not saying we are going to have more points than last season because last season we collected a very acceptable level of points", he said. "I think we are going to be a better team".

'You see the level of the teams.

City have strolled their games in the Premier League, they have strolled through their group in the Champions League for the last few years and against Lyon, maybe the City players thought it would be another walk in the park and they took their eye off the ball.

"And they can say, "Oh, Manchester United, good team, good squad, City good squad, good team".

"He's probably been one of United's best players this season so far".

United, and the manager, had all that criticism earlier in the season but it was hard for them, players late back after the World Cup and issues like that.

All sorts of questions were being asked about Manchester United when they lost to Tottenham at the end of August, but since then they have won three out of three, all away from home. All of them, they can say the same thing.

The Chile global is yet to score in four games this season and has managed just three in 22 games since arriving from Arsenal.

Dalot grabbed headlines with his exciting performance in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Young Boys on Wednesday night and many now want him to make his Premier League debut as well.

"I think it is [a mental thing]", he said.

And Jimenez says competition among the squad is strong, which is helping the players to perform well on the pitch.

"So, they got this season, the Portuguese national team goalkeeper [Rui Patricio], they got [Joao] Moutinho, who is one of the players of the 100 caps club".

"I think this is more the influence of the moment".

'Football is a little bit like this.
