Christine Blasey Ford May Testify Next Week After All

The woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were teens says she is willing to testify about the incident if a number of terms are met.

The Senate Judiciary Committee had scheduled a Monday hearing and invited Ford to testify then about what she has alleged happened in 1982 at a house party in suburban Washington. Ford wants the FBI to investigate her claim before testifying. But I can only say this: "he's such an outstanding man - very hard for me to imagine that anything happened", Trump told reporters. Flake wavered when Ford requested an FBI investigation of her claims before appearing in front of Congress. Democrats support an FBI investigation of the claims, and Anita Hill wrote an op-ed saying such a step would be necessary to ensure Ford gets a fair hearing. They also want more witnesses besides Kavanaugh and Ford, hoping to avoid what they said would turn into merely a "he-said-she-said" moment.

Chuck Grassley, the committee's Republican chairman, on Wednesday sent a letter to Ford's lawyers giving her until 10am (14:00 GMT) on Friday to submit prepared testimony if she meant to show up on Monday.

At the end of the post, Ruyak said "the story that this woman is telling is one that I know was repeated dozens of times in my 4 years at Prep", but later clarified that he did not attend the high school at the same time as Ford or Kavanaugh.

New York Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand made a fool out of herself on Thursday after she attacked Republicans for doing the same thing she has done regarding the allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Will Republicans be able to confirm Kavanaugh before the midterm elections?

"This is but the latest - and most serious - of your side's abuse of this confirmation process", Grassley said.

Demonstrators have congregated in a Senate office building to protest Republicans' handling of the sexual-assault accusation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Why didn't any of this come up at Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing?

Ford's attorneys spoke Thursday with representatives from Republicans and Democrats on the committee in an opening round of negotiations about her appearance.

He followed up later in the day with a letter to committee Democrats refuting their requests for a delay and criticizing their conduct during the confirmation process. In an interview with The Washington Post, Blasey said Kavanaugh pinned her down on a bed and groped her as Judge, who also appeared to be drunk, watched.

In a letter to Ford's attorneys released Wednesday, Grassley said "no one should be subject to that behavior".

They argue they've given every opportunity for Ford to get her story directly to the Judiciary Committee without the involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - either to committee staffers or to members. Professional investigators understand only too well the inherent unreliability of allegations raised in the manner Ford's have been raised.

Hill is the law professor who during the Senate's 1991 consideration of Clarence Thomas' Supreme Court nomination accused him of sexual harassment.

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in three women in the United States experience some form of sexual violence in their lives.
