5 people stabbed at NYC day care centre

Several people, including three infants, were stabbed in a Queens day care early Friday, police said.

NY reports that authorities say the stabbings happened just before 4 a.m. Friday. One of the infants, a girl, is in serious condition, but none of the injuries is considered life-threatening.

A police spokesman said victims had "multiple stab wounds", adding they are looking into reports some of the victims are children.

The woman was found in the basement of the centre with self-inflicted cuts to her wrists, a New York Police Department official told AFP.

The injured man is a father of one of the chilren at the day centre and he recieved a stab wound to his leg.

During the 4 a.m stabbing at the Flushing daycare center, three other adults were also injured. She was taken to hospital in police custody, and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The five victims were taken to area hospitals.

Other children at the day care weren't injured, authorities said.
