OnePlus is going to launch a TV

Shenzhen-based OnePlus has distinguished itself from a raft of Chinese mobile wannabees with some beautifully designed and well-functioning devices - eight phones to date - while it has developed its own Android-based OS and branched out into headphones.

OnePlus, the smartphone maker that was until now known for its "low cost, powerful performance" smartphones since past five years may soon be known for its TVs as well. In his post, Lau states that making the OnePlus TV was the brand's goal of bringing the home environment to the "next level of intelligent connectivity". Just like smartphones, OnePlus is also asking for feedback and suggestions from the users and for starters, it is asking people to name their TV.

OnePlus is now working on a smart TV.

Smart TV will become the first "not a smartphone" produced by OnePlus.

After taking the smartphone market by storm, OnePlus is taking another step towards its vision to build premium flagship products that improve the human experience through simplicity, efficiency, and intelligent functionality. As said before, the OnePlus TV is going to be much smarter. "We bring inherent advantages to the industry, and with this new division, we're excited to explore the total connected user experience that can enhance everyday life.", said Pete Lau, OnePlus Founder, and CEO.

The forum post is deliberately short on details and apart from the name and the general indication of what the product will be, there is little to gain from it. Integrating with Google Assistant would dovetail the TV into a wide range of smart home systems which OnePlus seems keen to leverage, seeing the TV as a smart home hub, rather than just a place to watch TV.

The OnePlus TV will also come with a built-in camera, which will be "essential" to the device. The top ten favorites will make it through to the next round, and each person will receive a pair of OnePlus Bullet Wireless earphones. The ten finalists will be announced on October 31, with the overall victor set to be revealed before December 17. For its next trick, the company has announced it's eyeing up the smart TV space.

OnePlus will also choose 10 finalists from China and from 20 combined finalists it will announce 1 grand-prize before December 17th, 2018, which includes the following grand prizes.
