Sony PlayStation Classic Console With 20 Preloaded Retro Games, HDMI Support Launched

The Sony PlayStation Classic will be available for $99.99 on December 3, 2018, which is a historic date for the Sony PlayStation.

For obvious size-related reasons, you wont be able to use accessories designed for the original PlayStation with it. The console has 20 games pre-installed, including Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, R4 Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms.

Following the success of Nintendo's nostalgia-tinged hardware releases, Sony is launching its own mini version of a classic console.

Given what we know about the retail woes of the SNES and NES Mini (though that was partly a result of Nintendo's ridiculously limited supply), you're going to need to pre-order the PlayStation Classic ASAP if you intend to get your hands on one by this Christmas.

The PlayStation Classic is said to be 45% smaller than the original PlayStation, and you can plainly see the difference in the images below.

The Classic is almost half the size of the first PlayStation, which read CD-ROMs and sold 100 million units worldwide. The price of the PlayStation Classic is notably higher than the $80 SNES Classic and $60 NES Classic Edition.

You can preorder the Sony PlayStation Classic in the U.S. at select stores, Sony said.

The box comes with the console, an HDMI cable, a USB cable (for power, power adapter not included), and two replica PS1 controllers for any games that support local multiplayer.

The design of the Sony PlayStation Classic reminds us of the original PlayStation, and features the same colourful PlayStation logo on top as well as identical layout and package.

We would imagine we'll hear more information about United Kingdom retailers very soon.
