LeBron is set to star in the "Space Jam" sequel, meaning he'll take the reigns from Michael Jordan as the National Basketball Association lead sharing the court with animated Looney Tunes characters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coogler will oversee production on the film with a planned start date following the end of the upcoming National Basketball Association season in June 2019. Coogler will produce the movie.

"James" most recent acting role on the big screen was 2015's Trainwreck, alongside with Amy Schumer and Bill Hader. Some even saw James' decision to join the Los Angeles Lakers as proof that Space Jam 2 was a sure bet. It was very stupid, but it also gained a cult following that endures to this day. As speculation of James starring in a new "Space Jam" movie began to grow, Muggsy Bogues said the honor should instead go to Kobe Bryant. "It's so much bigger. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people [with Black Panther]". At one point, Fast & Furious director Justin Lin was set to direct, but those plans have obviously changed. "For Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it's incredible", the soon-to-be Los Angeles Laker said. "I feel I've done nine different iterations already and we're going to keep going, but we're getting closer every day".

Nance is most well-known for creating the HBO series Random Acts of Flyness, which debuted on the cable network in August 2018.

Earlier in the year, SpringHill caused some speculation when it posted an image of the original Space Jam movie's website, which to this day remains active on the web. Coogler is a filmmaker in demand, having taken Black Panther to box office glory.

James appearing in Space Jam and essentially replacing Jordan is another weird subtext to the never-ending debate about whether James is the greatest basketball player ever or if Jordan still retains that role.
