A while back we learned that Sony was aiming for a PG-13 rating on Ruben Fleischer's Venom, a movie about a psychotic alien parasite that bites the heads off unsafe criminals after taking over the body of Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), a man with an unfortunate speaking voice.

Citing unnamed sources, Fandango's Erik Davis contends the studio sought to avoid the R rating in order to leave the door open to an eventual face-off between Venom and Spider-Man. "If the movie is R, it's hard to do that".

Well, anyway, it's now official: our friends over at Collider have confirmed that Venom will be rated PG-13. It is the first installment of Sony's Marvel Universe, a shared cinematic universe that will also include other movies about supporting Spider-Man characters such as Silver and Black, a movie featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat, the Morbius movie, and Nightwatch. "I mean, I know the answer - I've seen the movie". He won't work as well in a PG-13 movie.

Regarding why Venom is rated PG-13, it's thought because Sony wants to connect Venom to not only Spider-Man, but the MCU as well, including the Avengers.

In the same interview, Fleischer all but confirms that Venom will have a post-credits scene, so stick around through those credits when the film hits theaters on October 5th, folks.
