Uber’s Largest Shareholder Prototypes a Blockchain for Mobile Cross-Carrier Payments

Notably, the partnership with Synchronoss allows the platform to benefit from the Rich Communication Service protocol, an alternative to SMS popularised by Synchronoss in Japan.

The firms also claim that users will be able to use the platform to spend and transfer cryptocurrency anywhere in the world using their mobile devices.

Japan-based tech company SoftBank announced the development of a new blockchain-powered cross-carrier mobile payment service in a press release published on the company's website on September 12.

RCS, a global messaging standard, can be understood as the next generation of text messaging, as TechCrunch explains.

"The three companies have successfully completed a mobile payments service PoC that is created to allow users to make a range of in-store, mobile and digital purchases directly from their device", notes a press release issued by Softbank Corp.

TBCASoft has been working with SoftBank, under the Carrier Blockchain Study Group (CBSG) Consortium, to deliver a cross-carrier blockchain platform called CCPS (Cross-Carrier Payment Service), which is created to support global mobile payment services among operators. They have been working together to deliver a cross-carrier blockchain platform called Cross-Carrier Payment Service (CCPS), which facilitates global mobile payment services among global telecommunication carriers. The platform is now being demonstrated at the Mobile Web Congress Americas conference that is taking place in Los Angeles, California, between September 12 and 14. Payments can also be sent using the RCS global messaging standard. The beauty about the entire platform is that the CCPS blockchain, REC messaging app, as well as linked emails, are interlinked to enable the P2P money transfers.

Ling Wu, TBCASoft CEO mentioned in a statement that, "A large number of Communication Service Providers (CSPs) are adopting the blockchain technology to add new features and services to their portfolio".
