At least seven people were injured in Greece on Thursday in a rockfall at the popular Navagio beach in the island of Zakynthos, Greek authorities said.

The injuries suffered by those closest to the cliff were non-threatening, Greek authorities said.

According to authorities, the three victims are being transferred to Zakynthos General Hospital, while an emergency team from the local Fire Brigade (EMAK) are searching under fallen rocks for other possible victims. (Supplied) Video footage shows terrified beach goers running.

An air and sea search was conducted as a precaution in case there was anyone trapped under the rocks. The woman's husband and two children were hospitalized with minor injuries.

"There was a noise and a small piece of rock fell, then a second bigger and finally a third big piece of rock that during the fall created a sea whirlpool that overturned the boats", one eyewitness said.

One of the island's main attractions, Navagio has a shipwreck on the shore and is surrounded by steep cliffs. The cove features limestone cliffs towering above the beach of white sand and crystalline water made famous by the wreckage of a small cargo ship washed up on the beach since the 1980s.
