Thanks to the first trailer, we already know that Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner's next project, The Romanoffs, is an anthology series at Amazon due out on October 12th.

While the teaser focused on the series' stacked cast, the trailer sheds some light on its story. Some of them relish in the fact that they come from royal blood, while others find it problematic.

The Romanoffs was shot in various exotic locations around the world that include Europe, the Americas, and the Far East; all the while using local production and creative talent. In The Violet Hour, set in Paris, starting Eckhart, Marthe Keller, Inès Melab and Louise Bourgoin, "an ancestral home holds the key to a families future", the tagline notes. Then, new episodes will be released weekly.

Weiner, who created, written, directed and executive produced the series, reunites with Mad Men alum including Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Jay R. Ferguson, and Cara Buono. There was a lot of anticipation surrounding what Weiner would do next after Mad Men, which tied the Emmy record for most consecutive Best Drama Series wins, and indeed The Romanoffs marked a curious but somewhat sensical choice.

The anthology series, featuring eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family, will also star Aaron Eckhart, Diane Lane, Isabelle Huppert, Amanda Peet, Kathryn Hahn, Noah Wyle and Hugh Skinner.

It remains to be seen if The Romanoffs' high concept, big budget, and accomplished cast all add up to a critically acclaimed show.
