'Modern Family' Will Kill Off a Character This Season

Modern Family will be saying goodbye to a "significant character" in the show's upcoming tenth season.

Indeed, as Lloyd told Entertainment Weekly, this season won't just feature the expected family drama laced with big laughs and situational comedy. 'We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it's not easy to do because that's a heavy subject.

At the time, Lloyd went on to explain that they were now discussing how they want the final moments of the show to go, saying that things will ideally end the way they began - with a big family event.

Modern Family fans are in for an emotional new season after confirmation that an integral character is set to be killed off. Lloyd remains optimistic that there will be Dunphy doofiness beyond this season.

The show, which has made household names out of all the stars, including Sofia Vergara, Sarah Hyland, and Ariel Winter, has been on air since 2009 and will premiere its 10th season later this month.

"There's goodwill on both sides to make it happen, but there's also complicated matters that have to get worked through, and there's a time constraint on it, because we can't have it take too long", he said. He added, "there's a decent chance we'll see it happen".

'I hope there is.

While the program is entering the previous year of its contract, Lloyd is optimistic that "goodwill on both sides" will extend the show's life ― even if one character's life is being cut short. Is that clue related or unrelated to the aforementioned death?

"Modern Family", which won the Emmy for outstanding comedy five straight times at one point (but is not up for the award at Monday's ceremony), is a large ensemble comedy.
